Privacy Policy
Tiny Munich shows the scheduled position of public transport vehicles in Munich. It is built to work without knowing who you are. This policy explains, in plain terms, what the app does and does not do with your information.
The short version
The app needs no account, and we run no analytics or crash reporting of our own. Vehicle positions are computed on your device from a timetable bundled in the app, and your favourite lines stay on your phone.
The app is free, and it is paid for by advertising. Ads are served by Google AdMob. To decide which ads you see, the app asks for your consent: first through Google's consent form where the law requires it (EEA and UK), and then through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt.
If you allow tracking, Google may use your device's advertising identifier to show ads based on your interests, and may combine it with advertising data from other apps. If you decline, you still see ads — they are simply not based on your interests — and the app works exactly the same either way. A one-off Remove Ads purchase removes advertising entirely.
Data the app handles
| What | How it is used | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle positions, line geometry, station data | Bundled in the app from the MVV/MVG public timetable; computed on your device | Stays on your device. The app makes no position-related network request in this release. |
| The sky you choose (clear, cloudy, fog, rain, thunderstorm, windy, snow) | To draw the weather in the Toy Diorama — cloud, rain, fog, wind and lightning — and to label the chip at the top of the map | Stays on your device. This release has no weather service and shows no temperature: the sky is the one you picked, drawn locally, so no weather request is made at all. |
| Favourite lines | To remember which lines you starred | Stored on your device only, and included in your device backups (iCloud or computer backup). Never uploaded to us. |
| Your location — only if you allow it | To show where you are on the map and which vehicles are near you | Used on your device. Not sent to us. |
| Advertising data, collected by Google AdMob | To serve, cap and measure ads | Sent to Google. Listed in full under Advertising and tracking below. |
| Crash and diagnostic data of our own | — | None: there is no crash-reporting SDK of ours. Google's advertising SDK does collect diagnostics of its own — see below. |
Location
If you allow it, the app uses your device’s location while the map is open, to show where you are and which trams, buses and trains are near you. You can decline, and everything else still works. The app does not send your location to us. Google’s advertising SDK may derive a coarse location from the ad request itself, which is why Coarse Location appears in the table below.
Advertising and tracking
Ads are served by Google AdMob. Because the app asks for tracking
permission, its privacy manifest declares NSPrivacyTracking as
true. The following is the advertising SDK’s declared handling, exactly as
it ships in the app’s PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy:
| Data | Linked to you? | Used for tracking? | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Device ID (advertising identifier) | Yes | Yes | Third-party advertising, developer advertising, analytics |
| Advertising data | Yes | No | Third-party advertising, developer advertising, analytics |
| Coarse location | Yes | No | Third-party advertising, developer advertising, analytics |
| Product interaction | Yes | No | Third-party advertising, developer advertising, analytics |
| Performance data | No | No | Third-party advertising, developer advertising, analytics |
| Other diagnostic data | No | No | Third-party advertising, developer advertising, analytics |
| Crash data | No | No | Analytics |
You are asked first. In the EEA and the UK, Google’s consent form appears before any ad is requested; elsewhere, Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt does. The advertising SDK is not even started until consent has been resolved. If you decline tracking you still see ads — they are simply not based on your interests, and the advertising identifier is not used to track you across apps.
Data we never collect
- No name, email address, phone number or account.
- No contacts, photos, microphone or camera access.
- No analytics of our own. We run no first-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
- No browsing history, no health or fitness data, no sensitive information.
- We do not sell your data.
Children
The app is intended for a general audience and contains no age-restricted content. We collect no data from anyone ourselves, and we do not knowingly collect anything from children. The advertising SDK is configured so that ads are not personalised on the basis of the advertising identifier unless the user has allowed tracking.
Third parties
The app displays public transport information derived from open data published by Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) and Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV), and map data from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). Both are bundled inside the app, so using them sends nothing to anyone — MVG/MVV and the OpenStreetMap contributors never see a request from your device. The weather is a local setting rather than a feed, and the aircraft and airships you may see in the diorama are decorative geometry drawn on your device, which has never contacted the network.
Advertising is the one exception. Google AdMob receives the advertising data listed under Advertising and tracking, and Google acts as an independent controller for it. Their handling is described in Google’s own privacy policy and in the AdMob data disclosures.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this URL with an updated date.
